CAMPAGNOLO BORA ONE 35 TUBULAR WHEELSET

Campagnolo’s Bora ONE 35 Tubular Wheelset is a wheel that still has the chops to cheat wind on the flats. It’s the second-lightest wheel in Campy’s lineup, only beaten by the Bora Ultra 35 Tubular.

The rim is considered by Campy to be mid-depth, but these days, most see it as shallow. It is 35mm deep, with a 24.2mm external width. The depth is to make sure you’re getting an aero benefit in all conditions. The width is for wider tires. They’re assuming you’ll want to run 23-25mm wide tires for both the comfort and rolling resistance, but because these are tubulars, they’ll also work with 27mm Roubaix-ready tires and 33mm wide cyclocross knobbies. The shape is a modified airfoil and flattened for weight savings. The rim is also designed to come out of the box balanced for the valve stem of your tube. They call it RDB, Rim Dynamic Balance. This makes the wheel accelerate smoother and some believe reduces the wattage needed to power the wheels at a given speed.

The braking surface possesses Campy’s AC3 treatment, All Conditions Carbon Control, a texturing of the surface that improves stopping power in the wet and dry. Campy also includes brake pads for the Campagnolo/SRAM/Shimano brake shoe standard to ensure braking quality is high and consistent.

Spokes are steel and bladed. The front has 18 radial spokes, while the rear utilizes 21 spokes in Campy’s G3 pattern. G3 is a two-to-one lacing system with two crossed spokes on the drive side paired with a single radial spoke on the left side. This better balances spoke tension between the left and right side and keeps the wheel strong.

The hubs are made of aluminum alloy. They roll on USB Ceramic Ball Bearings. Campy departs from the pack by utilizing the older, smoother-running cup-and-cone design races rather than pressed-in cartridges.

Campy also includes their redesigned quick releases. To keep these as light and powerful as possible, they’ve combined a steel rod with a skeletal lever body and durable eccentric cam.

When purchasing the wheel, you need to specify whether you need a Campagnolo 9/10/11-speed cassette body or a SRAM/Shimano-compatible 9/10/11-speed cassette body. You also need to specify Bright Label or Dark Label, which is how the logo look.

In addition to brake pads and quick releases, the wheels come with valve extenders and a user manual.

Weight for the Campagnolo Bora One 35 Tubular wheelset is 1215g.
